Massage Therapy at Rascal Creek

Rascal Creek Physical Therapy is dedicated to providing a multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitation, fitness and performance. In keeping with that philosophy, we offer two different kinds of massage therapy. The massage therapists at Rascal Creek work independently and in conjunction with the physical therapy and fitness staff to develop the right massage therapy plan to meet your specific needs. Massage therapy sessions may be designed to address specific concerns or to enhance overall physical and mental health. Payments for massage therapy sessions are made directly to the practioner.

Treatments are typically 15-minute sessions addressing your problem areas.

Brenda Bogard, PT

Brenda is a Southern California native. She grew up in beautiful Laguna Beach, where she ran track and cross-country in high school. Her love of sports and exposure to injured teammates miraculously recovering after going to physical therapy inspired her to pursue physical therapy as a career. In 1999, she graduated from California State University, Long Beach, with a bachelors of science in physical therapy. She spent the first ten years of her career working in a private practice sports rehab/orthopedic clinic where she worked with a wide variety of injuries as well as several well-known professional, Olympic, and amateur athletes.

Brenda relocated with her family to Merced in August 2009 after her husband, Matt, started teaching art at Merced High School. Matt, Brenda, and their two children, Ethan and Charlotte were so excited to move to an area with less crowding and traffic congestion, and the opportunity to move their horses to wide-open country! The family quickly grew to include a new puppy (Brenda's bringing home strays again), and with all this space, it's just a matter of time before the household animal kingdom expands again and again...

Brenda joined the team at Rascal Creek Physical Therapy soon after moving to Merced. She enjoys the opportunity to continue learning and growing in a similar, but new environment with options for excellent educational courses and new experiences. Her main emphasis of treatment here will be massage - she has GREAT hands!

Is massage therapy right for you? Some of the benefits of treatment include:

  • Release of tight and sore muscles, which can cause ischemia. This is a condition where there isn't enough blood supply to soft tissues. It can cause hypersensitivity to touch and may allow further injury to the area.
  • Help relieve nerve compression or entrapment. This is pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, bone or cartilage which can contribute to muscle atrophy, referred pain, paresthesia and other impingement syndromes.
  • Deactivate myofascial trigger points. These are areas of high neurologic activity that can refer pain to other parts of the body.
  • Decrease pain and inflammation. Massage can restore flexibility in muscle tissue, relieve tension and decrease sensitivity of nerves.
  • Alleviate stress and improve circulation. Your blood and lymph carry nourishment to all the cells of the body and then carry away waste products produced by cellular activity. Massage encourages a better exchange of nutrients at the cellular level and more thorough detoxification.
  • Increase flexibility and range of motion. By reducing tension, muscles may allow more movement with less difficulty. This also reduced joint forces and reduces strain on the tissues.
  • Improve posture and coordination. When your muscles are relaxed and detoxified, you stand straighter and can work more efficiently.
